Can you eat biryani on a diet plan in Karachi?

Yes. In Karachi, biryani isn't a treat once a year; for many families it is Sunday lunch. Taking it away rarely works, so we plan for it.

  • Biryani: one measured plate with raita and salad, more chicken or mutton and a little less rice, and a lighter dinner that day.
  • Nihari and haleem: skim the oil on top, have one naan, and add a squeeze of lemon and some ginger instead of extra tarka.
  • Bun kebab and chaat: a planned snack, not an everyday stop on the way home.
  • Seafood: Karachi has fish and prawns most cities envy. Grilled, tandoori or in a light salan, they make some of the best protein in your plan.

A Burns Road night or a dhaba dinner fits too. You'll know in advance how to plan the day around it.

What if you spend hours in Karachi traffic?

Long commutes are where many diets fail: you leave early, skip breakfast, and buy whatever is near the office. Your plan is built around your actual day, including the time you leave home and the time you get back.

  • A breakfast you can eat in ten minutes, or take with you: eggs and roti, or yoghurt and fruit.
  • A packed lunch that holds up without a fridge until lunchtime.
  • A planned snack for the drive home, such as roasted chana or fruit, so you don't arrive home starving and eat dinner twice.

How do you stay active in the Karachi heat?

Karachi is hot and humid for much of the year. Walk early in the morning or after sunset, when the sea breeze helps: Sea View, Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim or the park nearest you. Drink water through the day, and remember that sugary drinks and sweet sherbets add up fast in summer.

On days when it's too hot to go out, the Signature plan's optional home exercise routine, with an animated guide for every movement, lets you train in a cool room.

Where can you get tests done in Karachi?

You don't need tests to start. If you have recent results, send them on WhatsApp. Signature plans include a Lab Insight Review of results such as haemoglobin, HbA1c, vitamin D, cholesterol and thyroid.

In Karachi, labs such as Dr. Essa's Laboratory, Chughtai Lab and the Aga Khan University Hospital laboratory have collection points across the city, and several offer home sampling. If you have diabetes or a heart condition, our guides on a diet plan for sugar patients and high BP and cholesterol explain what to ask your doctor.

What does a day on the plan look like in Karachi?

Here is an example workday with a long commute. It shows the pattern; your own plan gives every portion in grams, set for your body and your goal.

WhenExample
Before you leaveEggs and one roti, or yoghurt with fruit
Packed lunchChicken pulao or daal chawal, a measured portion, with raita and salad
On the drive homeRoasted chana or a piece of fruit
DinnerGrilled fish or prawn salan with roti and sabzi
Sunday lunchOne plate of biryani with raita and salad, then a light dinner

If you work evening or night shifts, the meals move with your hours rather than the clock.

How does an online nutritionist work in Karachi?

You fill in a short assessment and talk to us on WhatsApp or a video call. We build a 28-day plan around your routine, with every ingredient in grams, and Nida Tu Sehar, Nutritionist and Dietitian, reviews it before it reaches you on WhatsApp within 48 hours.

Results vary. Clients have written to us about losing 4 kg, almost 9 kg and 10 kg, and one went from 210 lb to 196 lb in three months. Their messages are on our client reviews page, and the plans are on plans and pricing.

Who reviews your plan

Every NutriZaika plan is reviewed by Nida Tu Sehar, Nutritionist and Dietitian (MPhil and BS (Hons) Food Sciences and Human Nutrition, Kinnaird College for Women, with over 7 years of clinical nutrition experience in hospitals). NutriZaika is a virtual health studio: there is no clinic to visit, so you never travel or wait.

01 Do you have a clinic in Karachi?

No. NutriZaika is a virtual health studio, so everything happens on WhatsApp and video calls. You never cross the city for an appointment, and the plan and price are the same in Clifton, Gulshan or Malir.

02 Can I eat seafood on my plan?

Yes. Fish and prawns are good sources of protein, and Karachi has plenty of both. Your plan favours grilled, tandoori or salan versions, with fried fish kept for planned meals. Tell us at the assessment if you avoid any seafood.

03 Can the plan work with office lunches or a canteen?

Yes. Tell us what your office canteen or nearby dhaba serves and when you eat. We plan a choice from that menu, or a packed lunch that keeps until midday, so you aren't left guessing at lunchtime.

04 Can my plan cover Ramadan?

Yes. Tell us at your assessment and your plan moves to sehri and iftar. In Karachi's humid heat, drinking enough between iftar and sehri matters, and the plan keeps the iftar table (pakoray, fruit chaat, dahi baray and sherbet) to sensible portions. If you have diabetes or take medicines, ask your doctor before you fast.
